The Leeds Medico-Chirurgical Society

President's message

For me, the great thing about the Med Chi is that it's a meeting-place for doctors from all branches of medicine and all grades of seniority. During my years as a consultant in Leeds, I often found myself writing to local colleagues I had never met, and my perspective on medical practice was restricted to obstetrics and gynaecology. The Med Chi has tremendous potential to correct this.

I'm delighted that the Med Chi has extended its membership to include students and professions allied to medicine, but I want to emphasise that you don't need to be a member to come to our talks. This year we have nationally-known speakers who will surely fire your interest, with subjects ranging from ebola to spinal cord repair and the use of biomaterials in facial reconstruction.

I always find it invigorating to meet colleagues, particularly younger ones, and I hope very much that the Med Chi will continue to grow. It's a unique resource for those of us in the Leeds area. I believe personal contacts are more necessary than ever in an era when we spend so much of our time staring at screens. Please do check out our programme and come along.
